Sun Defense Essay Contest > 2009 Sun Defense Essay Contest Winners
The Florida Society of Dermatology and Dermatologic Surgery (FSDDS) recently held its Second Annual Sun Defense essay contest among elementary schools throughout the state of Florida. The purpose of the FSDDS Florida Sun Defense Essay Contest is to educate elementary school-age children and their parents about the importance of sun safety and to promote literacy. We wish we had the ability to award a shade structure each of schools that entered; however, we could only choose five winners. With almost 4,000 students in 34 counties across Florida writing essays, it was obviously hard to pick only five winners from 99 entries that we received. We are proud of everyone who participated and we hope to receive more great essays next year! We are especially looking forward to meeting the Grand Prize winner, Isabel Babel from Audubon Park Elementary, at the FSDDS 2009 Annual Meeting, May 22-25 where she will be awarded with the Grand Prize plaque.
